Genre Research- Documentaries
A)
Common CAMS in documentaries: Tracking shots,
longshots, pans, and establishing shots are quite common in documentaries, and are
used to show the destruction or the great triumph that occurred.
B)
Common Sound in documentaries: Documentaries
have lots of original sounds that coincide with what is being shown and explained,
they usually have music that goes along with this to amplify the feelings the
creator is trying to evoke
C)
Common Mis-En-Scene in documentaries: Most
documentaries visit where the event occurred, this is done to create a sense of
connection to the place where the event happened. There are usually darker
lights to evoke feelings of distress or sadness within the event. The
interviews that are held are usually done inside in a closed room when talking
to experts but can also be conducted outside when they talk to people who might
not be the most educated.
D)
Common Editing in documentaries: In
documentaries, there are lots of jump cuts and cutaways, we feel we could also
utilize some split screens and montages to tell our story more powerfully.
E)
Example films of documentaries: limitless,
Everest, and gran turismo are all documentaries that interest us as a group.
F)
Elements of documentaries that we like: We like
how we would be able to tell more of a story. We have lots of footage of the
building and racing of the car. We would also be able to interview people that
were at the track when racing along with the numerous blogs that are online. We
would like to try doing an adventure documentary.
G) Elements of documentaries do not appeal to us: We do not like the usual slow-paced rhythm of documentaries and would like to keep it interesting.
