Creative Critical Reflection 1.       How does your product use or challenge conventions AND how does it represent social groups or  issues?                                                                                                                                                            Are commercial as many similar elements to the conventions, we used thing like a high pace tempo, upbeat music and similar camera angles to make it feel as close to a BMW commercial as possible. We also tried to display the same clothes and props that would be used in a commercial. This also ties in with the social groups as the costume represents a wealthy man hinting the fact that BMW cars are made for the wealthy class of people.   How does your product engage with audiences AND how would it be distributed as a real media text?  It shows lots of high pace action and shows high performance  of the car which certain  groups will like. People who are into cars will also appreciate and pr

Commercial Final

This is my groups first project that we worked on together. We definitely could have improved in some spot with the filming process but it still turned out great. I learned so much about editing and filming and had a lot of fun trying new edits to make it look beater each time. I am very happy about the final film and learned lots of new skills on the way.

Production blog: final edits and sound

Image
We met in class on the to finish the editing for the commercial. I started off by making final edits on our clips. We made different times and tested the looks on transition a few different ways. I also added the outro to the commercial. Then I decide it would be good and we moved onto sounds and music. We started off by getting the recorded engine noise. We used at the beginning to show the car revving up to show power. I then looked for a sound to match up with the lights turning on. I found a spotlight sound effect that would work perfectly and make it more dramatic. It took awhile but we time the sound and the video for that clip perfectly.  For the next clip we had the car driving by. I went through the sound effects on the software and found the perfect noise for it. We easily timed this clip and moved onto the next. For the dashboard clip the raw footage had the the perfect sound so we used that. Finally we added someone saying the slogan. For music we went through many royalty

Production Blog: Editing

Production Blog: Editing After filming our group decided on using iMovie to make our commercial. We also decided not to take a finial shot due to bad weather and realizing the commercial would work just fine without it. We took a break and started working on editing in our next class. We started off trying to edit on a phone but realized that it would not work out and switched to a laptop. At first we had some troubles but quickly learned how to maneuver through the app. Are first goal was to figure out the main clips we wanted in the commercial as we filmed a few extra in case we needed them. We used almost all of them except for one due to bad filming and time management. After deciding the clips we really focused on getting the clips down below 30 seconds as much as possible. We knew when we that we would need some transitions and effects so we needed some space. We cut and sped up some clips which left us with about 6 seconds to spare on our outro and transitions. We cut a lot fro

Filming Blog

Filming Blog On Wednesday October 5th my group and I filmed most of our commercial. We all met up at the Wearhouse Logan works at due to having the car and other necessary things to film our project. I was a little late due to a appointment I had being delayed.  Logan had recorded a few noises and small clips before we got their just to make things easier. Due to the cloudy weather we decide to wait to film some of the shots. I was acting in the commercial and also brought a costume to wear. I acted in one scene as the driver for our car. When filming we made sure there where no other cars in the area  so that our driver and our camera operator where safe at all times. We tested all the angles before each shot to make sure it would work best for that shot. Also to make sure there was nothing we didn't want in the background. We are also thinking about reshooting a couple shots when we film are last one due to the weather being better for all the shots. I used props like glasses an

StoryBoard

First scene:  During this scene we will be filming a BMW, more specifically an e36 M3, for the commercial. This shot will be an extreme close up of the back wheel and muffler of the car. This shot will be filmed inside the warehouse. We want to do this shot to show the performance of the car because BMW focuses so heavily on the performance of the car. Second scene:  We will get a shot of the car/cars rolling out of the warehouse getting different shots and then get it driving onto the road. Third scene:  we get a shot of the car driving on a separate road away from the warehouse with shots of it driving by quickly. Fourth scene:  In this scene it will focus on the speedometer on a close up to show the performance and speed in away people can really understand of what the car is capable of Fifth scene:  In the fifth scene the car hits its climax speed for the commercial to show it in action also advertising its performance to people who like speed and a look at what the c
