Creative Critical Reflection

1.               How does your product use or challenge conventions AND how does it represent social groups       or issues?

My media project used the conventions of an alternative video. Our film represented a lower class group. My film used props and costumes to represent a lower class person. Alternative rock videos are usually filmed with a down vibe. I  used a sort of down vibe but we decided to go with somewhat of a nicer background. After looking at a few more videos I also found that the background or setting is also giving off the same feeling. I feel like this will help with the fact that harder times happen to more than just the lower class when it comes to things like payments. My music videos plot was a older man waking up going through his daily boring and stressful morning routine. My video used a slower pace type of editing to put the feeling in place. This all allowed my viewers to see and feel what it might be like in a stressful time in the lower class.

2. How does your product engage with audiences AND how would it be distributed as a real media text?

The overall target audience isn't really a age group and more focused on people going through hard and stressful times. Although this can be anyone the main people who go through that is teenagers and young adults as they have a lot of stressful things happing during that time period. I used a very basic and plain style for must of the video to make it relate with the people who feel that way. The flashback and memories also help as when you are in a bad point in life you wish to go back to a easier time. when were filming I made sure to keep things a mess including my look to give off the vibe of someone who is tired and not happy or organized. The whole pot was used to show off the life of a older adult but relates to many other age groups. I used close ups on the pictures to make sure people would recognize that the pictures are the flashbacks we moved onto into the film to give off the happier vibe that was trying to be shown as soon as the main character started thinking about their past. To promote the video I would first talk to people I know well to spread it around to get a base viewership. Due to it being on You Tube the base viewership would automatically help promote it to others. I would also go to social media to promote and try to talk to other bigger artist to see if they could help.

How did your production skills develop throughout this project?

Through this project I developed a lot more production skills. Before this project I only acted once in a short clip and new a bit on editing.  The filing on this project was a lot different as I had to tell a story and show emotions in my acting. Fist of all my acting greatly improved as I was the main character of the film again. This time I was filmed for a lot more time which made it harder to pull off in one try. I think I also improved in directing the film a bit as I was not the main director. I made shots better by telling the cameraman what to do and telling the actors what to do. For the editing part of this film I didn't do a ton but I definitely improved on how I managed time as I was completing most of the editing work in just two classes. I also improved in set planning as all of our sets had all the props set up perfectly for each scene and it also improved the story of the film. Overall I need more work on acting and also just making sure there is no background things I don't want.

 4. How did you integrate technologies – software, hardware and online – in this project?

Throughout the whole film making processes I used many technologies to improve the film greatly. The research before the project I mainly used my phone and computer to watch videos and find pictures and ideas. The main things I used for research were YouTube, online articles, and recourses provided by our teachers. For the filming process I used my friends Apple iPhone 12 to record everything as it worked last time so we decided to stick with it. It allowed us to get high quality video as it is a newer model. I also used my Apple iPhone 13 to use as a prop and also to add up how much time we had recorded. The entire editing process was on my friends MacBook I used this to sometimes edit but it was not my main job so I didn't use it much. When I did edit I used many guides and ideas from other creators on social media and websites. Overall I used to iPhones Logan's MacBook and my Desktop to complete everything. I feel like almost every part of the project included technologies in some way.
